About SolarPowerPicker
This website is a passion project designed to help create solar power system builds all in one place.
Much of the site was inspired by PCPartPicker, which has been an invaluable resource for us over years of gaming and coding.
About the Developers
My name is Derek, and I've been in the software development/web development industry for 7+ years. Before that
I served in the U.S. Navy as a Submarine Sonar Technician. This website is something I've been working on to help
myself learn more, and to create a tool that I can use to build my own solar power system some day. I hope others
will find this site useful, and that I can continue to grow it into something great.
I've received a lot of help from my wife, Kaity, who is also a developer. She has put hundreds of hours into
learning new technologies, and has been vital in the data management and UI portions of the application.
Special thanks to Bryan, who has been my mentor since the beginning. This site wouldn't exist without you!
Thank you to the rest of my previous dev team members who have helped me grow and are just really amazing people!
My name is Kaity, and my career in software development began in 2020, following a moment of inspiration that caught me by surprise.
While painting our home office, I listened as my partner Derek and his colleague Bryan tackled a complex software problem over a Zoom call.
Their dynamic problem-solving, collaboration, and drive to build a solution sparked something in me — I knew then that I wanted to be a developer.
Over the next few years, I gained experience as a software engineer with a global consulting company, where I developed my skills and navigated the highs and lows of the industry.
But as the tech landscape and my career goals evolved, I realized I wanted something different.
In early 2024, I made the decision to step away from the corporate grind and pursue a project that aligned more closely with my personal passions - thus,
Derek's idea for "PC Part Picker but for mobile solar builds" became SolarPowerPicker.Com.
I'd like to thank my husband, partner, lead developer, and the most patient person in the world, Derek, for his continued support and encouragement;
my friend Hannah, for always believing in me; and the online communities that will always be home to me, no matter how our lives change.
